Read languages & law at Jesus College, Cambridge; joined Cheeswrights
in 1975, admitted as a notary in 1980; partner of Cheeswrights in
1981. Publications: editor, Tenth (1988), Eleventh (1992) and Twelfth
(2002) editions of Brookes Notary (Sweet and Maxwell,
London) and Hong Kong supplement (2005); consulting editor, Ship Registration:
Law and Practice (2002); with the late Theodoros Karatzas of the Athens
Bar and subsequently Governor of the National Bank of Greece, The
Greek Code of Private Maritime Law (1982). He is a past master
(2002-2003) of the Worshipful Company of Scriveners and currently
chairman of its notarial committee. He is also a member of the livery
of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights and Deputy Commissioner of Maritime Affairs
of the Republic of Vanuatu. Additionally, he has been appointed national rapporteur for the United Kingdom in relation to
